I’m a self-intuited mixed-media artist – working under the name Peeks Walner… my paintings are built in layers – drywall compound… mesh… fabric… pigment – shaped and reshaped until the work stands on its own.
Each idea begins with intention – sometimes a colour – sometimes a direction – and then it shifts… the process evolves through building… scraping… adding… removing… I don’t work towards a predertmined image – as the piece begins to speak – I respond to the change…
The edges often remain raw – the history of the surface stays visible… what happens in the making remains part of the finished work…
I began painting later in life – experience informs my work – and over time each piece becomes its own resolution…
