Description
by Maeve McGrath
This exuberant mixed-media work is equal parts still life and rebellion. Set against a rich, golden ground that recalls the warmth of butterscotch toast-textured, toasted, and familiar-a riot of wild blossoms erupts with joyful defiance. The vase tilts slightly off-kilter, as if caught mid-laugh, unable to contain the energy spilling from within. Stem stretch and twist without discipline, blooms burst in red and white splatters, and the background wears its splashed history proudly.
Maeve McGrath takes the conversations of the floral arrangement and loosens every thread, turning tradition on its side. Here, flowers aren’t posed-they’re alive, mischievous, and gloriously unkempt. There’s a sense of spontaneity, of something flung rather than placed, of beauty that doesn’t ask for persmission.
Untamed Flowers on Butterscotch Toast is a celebration of disorder as delight, a sweet, splattered ode to the joy of letting go.
